In the sixth episode of the second season of Stranger Things – Chapter Six: The Spy – things come to a head as the characters confront the Shadow Monster head-on and fight to save Hawkins from destruction.
Eleven’s journey to find her mother leads her to a mental institution, where she discovers that her mother became a victim of the experiments being conducted by Hawkins Lab. She also learns that there is another young girl with powers like hers, named Kali.
Meanwhile, Joyce, Hopper, and Bob team up to try to lure the Shadow Monster to Hawkins Lab, where they intend to trap and destroy it. But their plan is complicated by the presence of a spy, who has been secretly working with the lab to track their movements.
Mike, Dustin, and Lucas enlist the help of Steve to set a trap for the Demodogs, the creature spawning from Dart. As they fight for their lives, they realize that their only hope to stop the Shadow Monster is to close the gate to the Upside Down.
Finally, the episode ends with a heartbreaking sacrifice, as one of the main characters steps up to close the gate and save their friends and family. The threat of the Shadow Monster may have ended, but the characters are left to deal with the emotional fallout of their ordeal.
